REVIEWS
  • Quite simply, one of the best British jazz vocalists of this generation.

    BBC Radio

London is teeming with wannabe jazz divas, though very few have a convincing jazz feel. Shireen Francis is one such rarity. A sophisticated vocalist of Goan-Jamaican origins, she makes each performance sound easy with a warm, confident delivery and natural swing that quickly enables backing musicians to relax. Pianist Barry Green has rarely sounded as fluent and inventive as he does on this well-planned set.

Broadway standards (Out of This Word) mingle with originals (Please Don't Tell Me), a reggae favourite (London is the Place for Me) and modern classics by Ivan Lins, Carole King. Stevie Wonder and Take Six. A fine debut recording and long overdue.
