A warm, engaging and soulful performer, London based jazz vocalist Shireen Francis has developed her own unique blend of jazz with flavours of gospel, blues calypso and reggae. Performing with some of the country’s top jazz musicians, the combination of Shireen’s stunning expressive voice coupled with her natural musicianship has delighted audience all around the world.
Shireen is an inspirational and intuitive teacher, who guides and nurtures her students in the art of “singing in the moment” enabling creativity and enhancing performance. With many years of jazz performance teaching experience behind her, Shireen now her runs her own courses and workshops.
Teaching Experience:
Private teaching – one to one since 1993.
1999 – 1 year at Blackheath Conservatoire running jazz vocal workshops.
2001 – Blackheath Conservatoire – individual singing lessons – pop and jazz
Jan 2001 to 2008 – Richmond College – Jazz performance workshops. Four classes with 12 to 14 students in each class.
April 2005 – Shene International School & Grey Court School – teaching 13 to 16 years. Repertoire, pop, RnB, Jazz and Theatre
2005 – Master’s Degree level student in jazz vocal performance with pass + distinction result.
July 2008 to present – I am currently running my own courses and workshops in Barnes
Qualifications:
1985 - Studied jazz under Lee Gibson & Pete Churchill RACC in Richmond
1993 – Further Jazz vocal studies with Louise Gibbs at Goldsmiths College
2000 - Jazz & Popular Music Certificate – Goldsmiths
2007 - City & Guilds Certificate Teaching Adults
And a life-time of singing.
